Standard has been chosen as South Africa's most trusted company, while our Chief Executive Jacko Maree has been voted the most trusted CEO in South Africa.
Standard Bank won these awards ahead of 80 other companies in the annual Ask Africa Trust Barometer - a corporate reputation benchmark study. This is the third time that Jacko has won the award.
The Ask Africa Trust Barometer, which has been running for four years, measures corporate reputation issues such as trust, integrity and competence.
While there is a direct correlation between trust and reputation, the findings of Ask Africa's Trust Barometer show that the CEO also plays a core role. A chief finding was that corporate reputation, trust and the role of the CEO are related. Corporate trust differentiated Standard Bank from other companies that were surveyed.
"Winning companies are driven by winning CEOs. That's why corporate reputation, trust and the performance of the CEO form the basis of the Ask Africa Trust Barometer," says Sarina de Beer, Director at Ask Africa.
Jacko says that being chosen as the company with the leading reputation in South Africa is an acknowledgment of the strength of Standard Bank's relationships with all its stakeholder groups and the extent to which staff deliver on its vision and values.
"Our reputation is built by each and every one of our 48 000 staff in the 38 countries in which we operate. As CEO it's a privilege for me to be able to work with people of that calibre," says Jacko.
The full Ask Africa Trust Barometer survey will appear in the 14 August edition of FinWeek.
