10 March 2008
Through its "Open the Safe" initiative in conjunction with Metro FM, Standard Bank has donated R100 000 each to five schools from different parts of the country. The winners of the competition were announced on 7 March at Orlando West High in Soweto, Johannesburg.
The winning individuals and schools were:
- Ntombi and Phindi Nkuna - Esokwazi Secondary School, Sebokeng;
- Tiyani Baadjie - Giyani High School,
- Senzile Combined School in Hertzorgville;
- Senzi Moroe from Moemedi High School, Bloemfontein;
- Unathi Sibusiso - Olarndo West High.
Each of the contestants will each receive a whopping R10 000 cash from the R100 000 they've won for their school and the rest will go towards uplifting the standard of learning at their schools.
Contestants had to enter the competition through www.standardbank.co.za/openthesafe explaining why they thought they deserved an opportunity for Standard Bank to open the safe for them and their schools.
The campaign was also aired on Metro FM's morning show, Breakfast Show with Thomas (06:00-09:00), inviting people to enter the competition online. Many pupils entered from different schools all over the country, but only five made it through to the finals.
