26 May 2005

Standard Bank has donated R100 000 to the soccer development programme of Kaizer Chiefs. This is in recognition of the club's recent victory in the Premier Soccer League.

The Kaizer Chiefs players and chairman of the club Kaizer Motaung were presented with a cheque from Jacko Maree, Standard Bank's CEO, at a function held at the bank's Johannesburg head office.

"We recognise the enormous achievement of the club and the team that fought through such a closely contested season," said Maree.

Maree continued: "As the official banking partner of Kaizer Chiefs, we strive to support and add value to the club and its supporters in meaningful ways. Standard Bank believes in investing in our country's future leaders, and in this case we are delighted to offer this financial commitment to developing young soccer stars, who we hope will go on to win PSL seasons in years to come."

Standard Bank head office staff were invited to the celebratory handover, to offer congratulations and well wishes, and to have the opportunity to meet and mingle with the Chiefs players.

Standard Bank has been the official banking partner of both the Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates soccer clubs since 2001.
