Standard Bank wins top Banking Adjudicator award

24 October 2003

Standard Bank has won this year's Banking Adjudicator Award for Excellence in Dispute Management. Absa won last year.

The awards were presented by Gill Marcus, Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank, at the annual Banking Adjudicator's banquet last night.

The winning bank is identified by independent research company Markinor, which measures the quality of dispute handling mechanisms at the "big four" banks. Drawing randomly from each bank's private client databases, Markinor interviews about 1 600 people who complained to their banks over the previous six months.

The winning bank is the one that achieves the most favourable overall score in customer satisfaction with complaint resolution.

The Excellence in Dispute Management award is one of the most sought-after accolades in the banking industry, being regarded along similar lines as the Best Company to Work For, Value in Loyalty Programmes, South African Satisfaction Index and Top Brands survey.

Les Barrett, a manager in Standard Bank's Customer Relations Centre, won two Banking Adjudicator awards: the Independent Director's Award in recognition of the person who has excelled at handling customer complaints; and the Individual Recognition Award which recognises excellent customer service.
