Standard Bank Group Economist Iraj Abedian has been chosen as South Africa's top economist by the Association of Black Securities and Investment Professionals (Absip).
Absip has also selected Standard Corporate and Merchant Bank as South Africa's "most progressive company".
These awards were made at the second annual Absip Financial Awards ceremony at Gallagher Estate, Midrand, on Friday evening.
The awards are aimed at showcasing and celebrating black talent in financial services. They recognise outstanding players and their achievements and are intended to be an incentive to young aspirant professionals striving for excellence.
Absip was formed in 1995 to address the lack of black professionals in the securities and investment industry. It is a platform to address the aspirations of those already in the industry and acts as a forum for black professionals to exchange information and ideas.
